Retro Table Runner

Last day of year, so this is the last project for 2015. The fabrics for this runner also came from the Connecting Threads sale. This one has a very retro look due to the colors, including avocado green, and the big flower print on the back. It may be the last project of the year, but it's one of the prettiest. Again, I didn't add a label, so it can be used reversiblely.Given to Aunt Lucy.

Size: 20" x 40"  Quilting: Quilted on the domestic following the stripe design. Used dark gray 100% cotton thread. Quilting by Patty. Backing: Big flower cotton print

Morning Glory Table Toppers

Aunt Janet and Uncle Tommy moved to Texas. I decided to make a table runner as a house warming gift for them. I used the 60 Degrees of Separation pattern and fabric I found at a Connecting Threads Internet sale. I remember Aunt Janet said that if she could redo her yard she'd have blue and white flowers with yellow accents. What did her family get her? An orange flowering vine. So I thought the blue and white flowered stripe would be good for her runner. I had enough triangles left to make a small hexagon shaped topper. Later I learned that the small ones are called "table charms." Go figure! Maybe I'll give the small one to Miriam who also got a new home in December. I did not add labels so the toppers can be used reversiblely.

Size: 18" x 35" for the runner, 21" x 21" for the charm
Quilting: Quilted on the domestic following the stripe design. Used white 100% cotton thread. Quilting by Patty.

Miscellaneous Projects during 2015

During 2015, I did several quilting/sewing related projects. The projects included getting rid of all the burlap basmati rice bags I've saved over many years by turning them into shopping bags. All the basmati bags were given away, so this is a big win! I also made some shopping bags out of old dish towels and dresser scarves, some with Grandma Short painting and/or crocheted edging. I made aprons and bibs out of old dish towels and linen calendars. I saw a Missouri Star video about tote bags made with a special Bosal foam, iron on interfacing, so I had to buy some of the product and make a couple of bags. I also made a quilt block for the gift for the retiring president of the quilt guild.

Periodic Table Runner

I saw a picture of a table runner on the Internet and decided to make something similar.
I found this fun periodic table like and the chemistry lab like fabrics on fabric.com. With the help of bright scraps in my inventory, I made a copy of the runner from the Internet. I imagine that this one will be used on a patio table so I added corner pockets. Mother thinks the pockets need a way to be closed, but I didn't think so when I designed them. So, to be compliant I added the low tech safety pin solution. I love the brightness and chemistry-ness of this runner.

Size: 12" x 52"
Quilting: Quilted on the domestic. Some stitch in the ditch and some quilting around the squares of the "periodic table". Used black 100% cotton thread. Used spray basting to hold the sandwich together. Every time I use the spray, my technique improves. Quilting by Patty.
Backing: Chemistry print from fabric.com.
Batting: 100% polyester, siliconized Pellon
Binding:  Black plain cotton from my inventory.
Pattern: From the Internet.
Piecing by Patty.

60 Degrees of Separation Table Runner

This is another table runner made from a kit, but this time the kit included the backing fabric and batting, as well as the instructions and top fabric. However, this piece of fabric from Mother's inventory is way prettier than the fabric in the kit, so all I used was the instruction sheet. I quilted this one on the domestic following the striped design of the fabric. I had to buy a bigger 60 deg ruler to make this quilt. I used spray basting. It worked better this time than when I used it with Tomiko's quilt.  This one was given to Ann. I have enough top, backing, and binding fabrics to make another one.

Size: 17" x 42"
Quilting: Quilted on the domestic following the stripe design. Used dark red 100% cotton thread. Quilting by Patty.
Backing: Dark red cotton print from my inventory, from a fabric.com sale.
Batting: 100% polyester, left over Hobbs batting
Binding:  Dark red plain cotton from Mother's inventory.
Pattern: "Sixty Degrees of Separation" from The Quilt Connection

Nancy's Fancy Runner

This was another kit with the fabrics to piece the top and instructions. The only problem is that I didn't exactly follow the instructions so an already wide table runner turned out even wider. I think I should market it as a bed runner! I used the strips that came with the pattern and some left from the tote bag project; see Pool Table Runner. The strips and pattern came from a Nancy's Notions sale.

Size: 26" x 54"
Quilting: Quilted in overall meandering loose stipple design. Used blue polyester thread (Omni from Superior Threads-named "Ocean Blue"). Free form quilting. Used 2 bobbins. Quilting by Patty.
Backing: Dark blue tonal cotton from my inventory, bought for the Twins' quilts.
Batting: 100% polyester, left over Hobbs Batting
Binding:  Strips from the set provided with the kit.
Pattern: "Offset Log Cabin" from Nancy's Notions
Piecing by Patty.
Pinned into frame December 9, 2015.  Quilting on long arm quilter December 9, 2015. (Patty). I was able to quilt 2 runners in one day, this one and Elementary!

Pool Table Runner

This table runner was made with strips left from a tote bag I made earlier this year.  It's made a la the jelly roll race quilt pattern.  Mostly I made it to challenge my brain to figure out how many strips (select 12, use 11 1/2) needed to get a decent table runner. I am proud to say my brain still works! The planning produced a good sized runner. I also added corner pockets to hold flat weights, so the runner can be used outside and not blow away (as easily). Due to the water like colors and corner pockets I called this one "Pool Table Runner".  This one was given to Keith and Miff. I also gave them the flat metal washers to use as corner weights.

Size: 16" x 49"
Quilting: Quilted in overall meandering water ripple design. Used turquoise polyester thread (Omni from Superior Threads-named "Treasure Isle"). Free form quilting. Used 1 bobbin. Quilting by Patty.
Backing: Blue green print bought from a fabric.com sale and added to my inventory.
Batting: 100% polyester, left over Hobbs batting
Binding:  Plain green cotton from Mother's inventory.
Pattern: Adapted from Jelly Roll Race quilt pattern

Tonga Treats Table Runner

I decided to make several table runners for Christmas presents. This one was made from a kit I purchased, called "Tonga Treats", so it also meets one of my year goals. This runner was given to Cynthia and Julia. The batik fabric for the top and the pattern came in the kit. I used polyester batting left from a quilt and a piece from my inventory for the back.
