Hourglass Scramble (PIGS)

I had another package of the same layer cake 10” squares, so i decided to make another quilt and refine my quarter square technique. This one did go together smoother. It’s fun to make 2 similar twin bed quilts. I can see them being used together, like my sister and I had on our twin beds when we were young. The half blocks were scrambled compared to the first quilt. I still had problems with the quilting design in the center blocks of the quilt. I need more practice!
  • Size: 60" x 86" Twin bed size
  • Quilting: Border quilted in a meandering medium stipple, vaguely floral. Center quilted in a design to complement hourglass in blocks. The design is supposed to take the emphasis away from corners that may not match perfectly. Free form quilting. 6 bobbins. Used Omni 100% polyester thread. Named "Rose". Quilting by Patty.
  • Backing: Tan print fabric from Fabric.com. A wide back for quilts.
  • Batting: 100% cotton batting from Winline “Back to Basics”
  • Binding:  Red tonal print cotton from my inventory. Fabric was bought at The Laurel Leaf’s going out of business sale.
  • Pattern: Quarter square triangles, often called “Hourglass”. It’s a very traditional pattern.
  • Piecing by Patty.
  • Pinned into frame  November 3, 2017. Quilting on long arm quilter November 3-6, 2017. (Patty).
  • Binding by Patty.

Hourglass (New Technique and PIGS)

I wanted to do a quilt with quarter square triangles to practice the technique. I watched several on-line videos about making these quarter square blocks before beginning. I also tried a quilting design that i saw on Fons and Porter’s TV show. The quilting pattern is designed to de-emphasize corners that may not match perfectly. I need a lot more practice with this quilting design. My attempt was poor at best. I used a package of 10” squares from MSQC called “Rosewater”.

Halloween Corners (PIGS)

I decided to make a Halloween quilt. Halloween seems to be something people with October birthdays at the quilt guild “do”, so I decided to follow suit. This quilt will be donated to the guild for the Life Moves organization. I called it Halloween Corners because the  quilt has 320 flippy corners. I am not fond of making flippy corners so I was nearly insane by the time I finished all the corners.
  • Size: 74" x 89 3/4" Full size
  • Quilting: Quilted in a meandering loose stipple, meant to look like spirits floating through the air. Free form quilting. 9 bobbins. Used Omni 100% polyester thread. Named "Orange Glow". Quilting by Patty.
  • Backing: Tan print paisley fabric from Fabric.com. A wide back for quilts. One of the handsomest backs I’ve ever found.
  • Batting: 100% cotton batting from Winline “Back to Basics”
  • Binding:  Orange yellow plain cotton from my inventory.
  • Pattern: "Praire Flowers" from Block by Jenny Doan at MSQC
