GOALS FOR 2016 AND 2015 YEAR-END REPORT

2016 Goals

- Complete 18 long-armed quilts, including baby quilts for donation and one for a new cousin, Everly Joy. Some of the quilts to be completed are described in following goals, but the total should be 18. This is a pace of 1.5 quilts per month.

- Further improve long arm quilting techniques, including feathers.

- Make a quilt to learn a new technique, such as curved seams or scalloped borders.

- Make 3 neonatal quilts for guild.

- Make one "kit" quilt.

- Do not buy more fabric until 6 new quilts are completed from my current stash (excludes buying sashings, battings, backs, and bindings, if required).

- Make 3 zippered pouches as gifts or donations to learn how to insert zippers in bags.

- Make 1 bag using used denim.

- Make 4 table runners.

- Make a quilt out of the saved Peace Corps dresses.

- Watch quilting courses on the Internet and practice what is learned, including the quilt as you go (QAYG) course.

- Make 3 quilts from the To Do list of 10 Projects in bags as listed here:
1. Dog Park (Quilting Bee--"Community Garden") in Cal-Asia bag
2. Whole cloth star quilt in box
3. Sea Star (Binding Tool Star) in clear plastic orange bag
4. Sock Monkey #1 (my own) in pink N-M bag
5. Sock Monkey #2 (my own) in pink N-M bag
6. Road Work (Quilting Bee--"Prismatic") in gray Swiss Air bag
7. Good Night Moon (Joy of Quilting--similar to "The Incredibly Cool Cosmic Rocket Ship") in Aunt Janet Bag.
8. Garden Gate in leopard print bag
9. Marbles (Modern Baby) in UNICEF bag
10. Jumping Jacks (quilts from sweet Jane) in MSQC red bag to be named Tomato Soup

2016 Outlook

2016 will be a busy year. It's best to hit the ground running and not lose momentum or enthusiasm. The outlook is positive for a productive 2016.

2015 Year-End Report

- Completed 27 long-armed quilts, including 21 by Patty, 3 by Aunt Linda, 2 by cousins Kathy and Janet, and 1 by Tomiko! The goal of 16 long-armed quilts, was exceeded! Also, 2 quilts were quilted on the domestic, one by Tomiko and one by Patty. Of these 29 quilts, 14 were pieced by Patty, 6 by Mother, 5 by Aunt Linda, and 1 by Tomiko. Three quilts were whole cloth. It was a year filled with house guests and doctor appointments, so our accomplishments were outstanding! Seven of the quilts were neonatal size and one was a baby quilt for a friend.

- Two UFOs, including binding and labeling "Many Steps 2" and the Blue Maple Leaf quilt for Narinder were completed. In addition, a t-shirt quilt started many years ago was completed. The UFO goal was met and exceeded.

- Long arm quilting techniques were improved and feathers were practiced, including the feathers in the borders of Aunt Linda's One Block Wonder quilt. Patty completed an Internet course on long arming which improved her skills some. More improvement can be made in 2016, so this goal, although met, will be retained for another year.

- The new technique Patty learned was mitered corners. This technique was practiced on both of the twin quilts. The goal was met, but will be retained in 2016 to include curved seam piecing.

- Made 7 neonatal quilts for the guild. The goal of 6 was exceeded.

- Patty did not buy more fabric until 4 quilts were completed from her current stash. The goal was met and then the floodgates opened! Oh my gosh! Patty will have to reinstate the goal of no new fabric for 2016!

- Made two "kit" table runners. The goal of one "kit" was met, but since these are not full sized quilts, the goal will be retained for 2016.

- In addition, 9 table toppers were pieced and quilted. Four of the table runners were quilted on the long arm and 5 on the domestic. Two of the runners had special pockets for flat weights so they can be used outside and be less likely to blow away. Five were given as holiday presents instead of buying gift cards.

- Finally several quilting related projects were completed, including using up all the basmati rice bags Patty has saved over 15+ years by turning them into shopping bags and giving them away. That was a BIG win! She also made shopping bags out of old tea towels and dresser scarves, aprons and bibs out of the same sorts of materials, and a couple of lunch bags out of special foam interfacing and jelly roll strips.

Overall, we exceeded most of our goals. Our progress was excellent. We are gaining momentum as we move into 2016.
