Sally’s Cousin Quilt

About to Go Under Longarm Needle
The Short Cousins made blocks in 2011 so that each one of us could have a Cousin Quilt. Each cousin selected a theme and color scheme. Sally asked that each Cousin simply recreate the block they made for their own quilt for her quilt. Therefore, her quilt is quite a selection of colors and themes. There are 12 cousins minus Guy. Sally never completed her Cousin Quilt because there wasn’t a block for Guy. This year I decided to make a block for Guy and complete the quilt. Guy likes desert tortises, so I made a turtle block for him. One of the memories from my youth was going on a trip with Uncle Vaughn and family. We had to stop a lot so Guy could rescue desert tortises that were getting too close to the road. That’s why I made the gray corner—to represent the road. I also remember Guy feeding prickly pear fruit to the tortises he collected, so I added a “tuna” to the block. I bought the pattern that I used to make the tortise from an internet web site. To make a quilt with 13 blocks I added a plain block between the Cousin blocks. The plain blocks were made with fabric Sally selected for the back. Hopefully the quilt will be big enough for Sally’s antique 3/4 bed (it was Tata’s bed when she was a girl).
