Proof of Concept—Reproduction of a Vintage Quilt

From the Pop-Up Quilt Show
Mother and I have admired this pattern for a long time. We want to make one using her scraps. However, Mother thinks 2” finished squares are better than the 1 1/2” ones in the pattern. So, this quilt was put together as a “proof of concept” for the 2” squares. I used 2 jelly rolls to make it, really 1 jelly roll and a few strips from the second one.

I worked on this quilt at the Pop-Up show that the guild held at the San Mateo County Fairgrounds. Many people wandered through our work area. The gentleman were very interested in the old Singer Featherweight machines many of us were using. Sadly, they were not as admiring of the old quilters operating the machines!

Dynamic Duo

This is the second quilt Frances finished during her visit. This quilt is similar to one Mother made in 2016, named “Spice”. See this blog for September, 2016. It is named for the Dynamic Duo who made it, Frances and Mother. The differences between this quilt and “Pinal Peaks”, the first quilt Frances finished are it is one block longer and the set in triangles that finish the sides are dark red and not brown. On Aug, 19, 2019 given to Zebiba Ahmed who was Mother’s best caregiver after she broke her arm and neck.
